leave and cleave difficulties

Hi all,
My dh wants us to move near his parents 300 miles away. At the mo I live 30 miles away from my parents. I feel v guilty about moving as I'm worried that I won't be able to be there for them if they're sick when they're old or need special day to day care etc. At the mo they're in v good health. I do have 2 siblings local to them, but feel somehow its an abdication of responsibility. Then again, it's the same vice versa for dh at the mo. My father particularly has been a bit controlling of me in the past and sometimes it is like I've not fully left etc. Anyone relate?

Re: leave and cleave difficulties

Hello Bolton Lass.
Not one member of my family lives near me. Over the years they have all settled down elsewhere. The closest is a two hour drive. The furthest is about 3000 miles. But we have the telephone so can talk often. The nicest thing is I get to "Get away" for a few days and go visit with them. This is very special time.
Your parents know you love them and love you unconditionally. If you chose to move away, then will no doubt miss you, but wish you well. They will want your life to be full and rewarding.
I am sure if you talk to them and your husband, they will all be understanding and supportive. They will quell your fears and angst. If you are needed at anytime, then you will only be less than half a day away.
Spread your wings.
