Homosexuality in the Bible

I have a friend who is gay, he's had a real hard time with it, because hes from a christian family. He asked me to research for him why Christians believe it to be wrong, his faith is threatened by the persecution he feels he gets from other christians (whether it really is persecuted or not.)

And I am curious as to how ANY Christian can condemn homosexuality based on the Bible... I can find no verse explicitly saying it is wrong, Jesus himself doesnt seem to see it as an issue... why then all the fuss about it today..?

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
- Galatians 3:28

Gender clearly doesnt matter to God, and it remains by faith that a believer is saved, not his actions.

There is no passage in the Bible that refers specifically to a loving, commited homosexual relationship as we understand it today. When read in context as far as I can see the Bible merely condemns male prostitutes and ancient pagan sexual practices... which are a completely different matter entirely.

A great many Christians today would doubt that the creation account of Adam and Eve is literally true, believing instead in a form of God-based evolution. Perhaps man and woman IS the best model for a working relationship in the majority of cases, but Paul himself admits that there are exceptions to this (like in his decision that its better for him to stay single.) Iv read all the passages refering to homosexuality that I can find (in Genesis, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Judges, Kings, Romans, Corinthians, Timothy and Jude) and NONE of them as far as I can see indicate that being in a loving homosexual relationship is a sin.. perhaps someone here who knows more can help?

Thankyou.

Tommy.

Tommy

We appreciate your concern for your friend - and hope you find some useful answers. However this is a site specifically focussed on marriage, so I'm afraid you're rather off topic here. Can I suggest you contact True Freedom Trust who may be better equipped to deal with the questions you have raised.
