Where do the two differ??
You don't give us a lot to go on!!
There are three possible reasons I can think of why you might be in this situation:-
- one (or both) of you is already married - the Lord's word is very clear on having more than one wife. The Christian views on remarriage and divorce are widely varied, but probably the central position is that if a marriage has been ended by divorce, the our Lord is a God of second chances.
- one (or both) of you is too young - our thought here is that the vows taken in marriage are solemn and binding for life. There is much wisdom in the law requiring us to be a certain age before marrying.
- both of you are of the same sex - again, whilst there is a wide spectrum of views and practice in the church, the law in the UK remains clear.
In all these three cases we would suggest that the law and God's will are probably reasonably closely aligned so it is hard to see the reasons why it would be God's will to be counter to the law.
If you can be more specific on the issues, perhaps we can be clearer on the responses.
