Where to get married in Scotland

Hi you all out there,

I've been together with my girlfriend for 2,5 years now and we've started to think about marriage. I would really like to get married here in Scotland (my girl friend is Irish), but I have no idea where to do it. Any suggestions on good places for a small wedding (don't have a huge budget at my disposal).

Thanks a lot for the help!

Re: Where to get married in Scotland

First of all congratulations!

My name is Robin Thomson and over the last 7 years I have worked in some fabulous locations around Scotland on over 120 weddings and can certainly give you some starting out advice. I'm based in Edinburgh but operate nationwide. Don't worry about budget - do you know most couples spend 250 hours planning their big day and that, dispelling the myth, wedding planners are by and large free as we get our commission from venues, suppliers etc (and in most cases can negociate even better deals for you). Anyway, check out http://www.mercury-events.co.uk and see what you think.

Good luck!

Re: Where to get married in Scotland

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your advice. I will have a look on your website. A cousin of my girl friend keeps bothering me with this company called Ultimatevenue. Have you heard of it? Or anyone? He, the cousin, used it to find a place for his marriage in Ireland and my girl friend is really impressed on how easy her cousin keeps telling it was to use it. I think they might have venues in Scotland, haven't given a second look to the website yet.

But anyway, I'll look into yoru website and get back to you later.

Thanks!

Re: Where to get married in Scotland

We got married near Stirling at Gean House ( www.geanhouse.co.uk ) it is a beautiful house in lovely gardens and they specialise in smaller weddings. All our family and friends stayed at the house with us from the Friday before until the Sunday after the wedding and it was a most magical time for us. I also think it was good value for money and they could not do enough to make our day go smoothly. Look them up.

Oh thanks jeekah. I will look up the website for that. Hopefully it'll be something that my gf will appreciate. She's a bit picky from time to time. haha

I am very picky, ha ha, and Gean House was just perfect!

I should add that it is handy for the airports for guests that will be traveling in as it is central between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Let me know if you need any more info!

Re: Where to get married in Scotland

I'll surely do that. Had a look on their website, looks nice enough. My gf is still out of town, so haven't been able to show it to her yet, but I'll have my fingers crossed on this. Such a pain to look for a nice place, so many to choose from.
