Acceptance
When I look back on my relationship
with my partner, I can remember days when the world seemed a
perfect place to live in, the sun shone, and love felt so
wonderful.
There are days I wish I could bring
back all those feelings and let go of my worries, my
fears, and my anxieties. Sometimes I wonder why love
seems like a roller coaster, with its unpredictable highs
and lows.
What was it about those days? Was it a
feeling of being accepted and loved simply for who I was?
And did my partner's faults seem trivial in comparison to all
their wonderful qualities? I wonder at times what
happened....did I change, or did our views of each other
change, or both?
So many questions; yet maybe I'm
holding myself and my partner up to a standard of perfection
that costs me much more than it gives me. Is it worth
having less love to focus on their "defects" or
mine? It's time to ask myself "how important are
they?" Maybe my partner is just as afraid as I am about
not measuring up. If so, that's taking away from their
natural desire to love and to be loved, and to express it
warmly, with caring.
Just for Today
Today I'll try to accept one thing
about my partner that I never really accepted before, knowing
that the more I do so, the more love my relationship with
them will bring me. Knowing that my attitude can
make such an important difference is a wonderful
discovery. It's no longer perfection I'm after, just
simple acceptance, and the love that follows with it.
